The brand new Tahiti picnic baskets are the result of a collaboration with designer Patricia Urquiola to mark Milan Design Week 2024. They complement the Tahiti line of cutlery and objects conceived in the 1960s, which are notable for skillfully employing silver and bamboo while evoking the natural wonders of the Polynesian islands. Created with the highest level of craftsmanship, the basket exteriors are covered with beige- and brown-tone leather weave, while wood interiors are covered in a suede fabric – special containers for the Tahiti collection’s silverware as well as the Maison’s porcelains made in collaboration with Ginori 1735. “The choice to focus the collaboration on a picnic basket, the quintessential symbol of conviviality and relaxation, turned out to be the ideal opportunity to illustrate moments of informal sophistication,” noted Andrea Buccellati, the Maison’s Creative Director.

The Tahiti cutlery was born in the ‘60s on original drawings by Gianmaria Buccellati and upon specific request of an influential Italian industrialist, who ordered it for his yacht. The precious set in silver and bamboo evokes the Polynesian natural wonders and proposes a combination of high elegance and eco-sustainability. The name of the collection is tightly linked to the memory of Paul Gauguin, who lived in Tahiti during the last period of his life and who was very much inspired by the island for his paintings portraying the women of Tahiti and its wonderful landscapes.
