As in ancient times, Buccellati’s craftspeople fixed the silver object onto a work surface. Then, they continuously and lightly beat the inside of it using a narrow cylinder, making extremely precise adjustments to its vibrations. Finally, the artisans made the object slide until perfectly embossed decorations were achieved, such as these olive branches. Using his great skill, Mario was able to convey the sculptural aspect of the leaves and branches on this Mediterranean plant, the interweaving of which seems to make the background of the oval-shaped box almost disappear.
