THE SEGRINATO TECHNIQUE

Milan 2024

The “Segrinato” engraving has been used by Buccellati from the early 30s and 40s, mainly on silver objects. In the following two decades however, this type of engraving has reached its maximum potential in the crafting of jewellery objects as it was ideal for giving movement to leaves, flowers and fruits that made up bracelets and brooches. This technique is obtained striclty by hand, engraving with a burin some overlapping lines in different directions, so that petals look real, soft and organic.

Two majestic examples of this technique’s application are the iconic Magnolia Brooch, originally in yellow gold and debuted during the 80s, which has now been reproposed in a new version, and the Acanto bracelet: designed by Mario Buccellati and handcrafted in the 1950s.
These two objects, alongside many others, testifies the timelessness of the Maions’s designs and demonstrates how the beauty of objects created in the past, can endure and fascinate all generations.
